I'm glad to see you pursue the high eff side of things.  I think there is more advantages to HE than just being able to use low powered tube amps, but that is just me.

Obelisk has already been used by a (in)famous speaker by Ohm/Walsh.  I like the Metronome name, but if you notice the first page, he chose Song Tower already.

These speakers consist of 9 sides a piece.
4 up top. 4 sides, and the bottom.

Two 9's Bi-nines... two nine sided towers.

How about Salk Benign (2x9) ...
Salk Nonagon ( 9 sides)

By the way, you cannot draw a nonagon by classical geometrics...

High eff. speakers and low powered SS amps go real nice together. An AB amp might stay in A mode, and not suffer switching harshness or other distortions. Maybe operate in a some kind of sweet spot. :D

Has a name been given yet?
If not..

Salk Klas act (Salk backwards is Klas..) act = audio class tower ...

I think it is a good suggestion!!!  8) But then again... uhm! Maybe it is?
Salk "The Klas act" ... a tough one to follow ... as they say.  :D Something like that.

Ok, I'll play - Salk Finesse (for what it does) or Salk Royale (for what it cost)

Yup, they do look sorta like the Pharos, or Φάρος as the greek lettering looks like.

We had such good input when we named the SongTowers, that I thought it would be a great idea to try it again with another new model.

Here are some photos to get you started...

Beautiful. I wonder if this future offering will be the start new 'series' (like the Veracity series or the V series or the Song series).  Or will it be a particular model within (I presume) the Veracity series?

If it is a model within the Veracity series, then I can see it named after its unique 'monumental' or 'obelisk' looks. Like the Veracity Monumysts or something.  But if it is to be the name of a brand new series, I'm guessing that its siblings within this new series won't carry the same obelisk shape. Thus it would be better to name it after something else, like its particular high end sound and performance characteristics. Like the Salk Efficacy series or something.

Incidentally I love the name given to the SongTowers.  It bespeaks it its sheer musicalness and also its pricing accessibility. Afterall, a 'song' is for everyone. I've just joined this forum because I fully intend to buy a pair of SongTowers  for my mother in the near future. I think it would make a great home warming gift, as she moves from her apartment in another city to something very close to us, with nursing care. She loves music from the likes of Al Jolson and Louis Armstrong. From what I've read here and on avs as a new lurker, I think the SongTowers will deliver.  Like two ministering angels.  And compared to what she has (and what I have!), I'm sure the SongTowers will sound angelic by comparison!

Does Jim/anyone have dimensions on this speaker? Curious to see exactly how much larger it is than the HT3.

They are 17' x 17" at the base and taper up from there.  They are about 40" tall plus 3 - 4" for the plinths and spikes. While they are larger at the base, they don't really appear that much larger than the HT3's.

You can see addtional information about them here: http://www.salksound.com/pharos.shtml

By the way, the name Jeff and I finally settled on for these speakers is Pharos HET's (high efficiency tower).

Thanks :)

I think the idea of high-efficiency, yet more "conventional" speakers (multi-way, crossover) is a niche that could be filled out more, and this speaker almost single-handedly opened me up to lusting after 300Bs . Are there any plans for more compact speakers in this range, like maybe an HET-1 monitor?

There are no specific plans at this time, but we are always evaluating things.

Right now, I do have a tube-friendly pair of 92db speakers for sale on audiogon.com.  They are another Jeff Bagby design called the Galileos.  It is an open baffle design that Jeff developed for himself.  When we completed this project, I visited Jeff and he had these speakers sitting in the corner.  I was always intrigued with open baffle designs and Jeff offered me the opportunity to take them home and try them out.  He told me that when I finished with them, I should just sell them as he had too many speakers sitting around.

The other evening, I took them down to my listening room and hooked them up in an environment I am very used to.  After the lisetning session, I emailed Jeff to say how impressed I was and that perhaps we should consider offering the design.  Whether we will or not is still up in the air.  Our plate is pretty full right now, so it would be a while.  But one thing is certain, whether we eventually offer it or not, someone will get a VERY good deal on this pair of speakers.

Can you tell us what drivers are in those "Galileos" please?  Looks like a PHL driver.  I bet those speakers sound magnificent!

You are correct.  PHL mid and a Morel MD30 tweeter - both extremely good drivers.  I forget what the woofer is but can certainly ask Jeff if you are interested.

This is a very sweet sounding speaker and, at this price, someone will have a very good deal indeed.  If we were to produce this model, the price would certainly be at least $1000 or more higher.

Sweet, I'm finally famous.

Yes you are!  Thanks for the input.  And thanks to everyone else who contributed ideas.  In this case, it was not quite as easy as it was with the SongTowers.  But as I've said in the past, any name you adopt will eventually sound natural and I think the Pharos name conjures up thoughts of Egypt where the obelisk was born.
