Wow... Congrats!

I'm anxious to hear your thoughts.  Did you select and buy the wood yourself, then send it to Gary?  Or did the wood come from his stock?

I got it set up, put this LP on..

Within the first 3 notes..I know I'm hooked!!!!

Last night I just got back from a friend's house who owns a VPI SuperScoutmaster with BAT VK-10SE with BAT REX with BAT-VK150, that was an awesome system. But now I prefer the sound that's coming out of my humble setup  aa aa aa

Oh..I almost forgot to answer your question, I found my own wood on ebay and then shipped to Gary.

Dodd phono and Minimax shoot out
Barry and I did a shoot out with Barry’s Dodd Battery phono preamp and my Minimax Phonostage.   The Dodd and the Minimax both had a broad deep sound stage and a similar balance.    The Dodd was crystal clear and the Minimax was soft and diffused.   The Minimax was warmer.   Barry thought that the Dodd had better bass.

I replaced my low level smooth plate Telefunken tube with a black topped RCA.   This took away some of the warmth to make it closer to the Dodd.  Barry took off the tube dampers that he had on the Dodd and the Dodd became more diffuse.   We put Barry’s tube dampers on the Minimax and the Minimax seemed to go half way to the sound of the Dodd.   We then tried a Ear 834p with tube dampers.   The Ear made the soundstage shrink to a third the size so we didn't go further.

All in all, I think the Dodd and Minimax have a similar sound.   The main difference seemed to be the mechanical noise with the tubes and the electrical noise with the Minimax’s power supply.   The battery power seems to be the way to go.
