The rum is cheap and good, I enjoy the Havana Club Anejo 7 anos. Runs about 15 bucks a bottle. I sip it like a single malt.
The people are friendly and courteous. Spanish is really the only language here. Very sad when you think every other country I have been in pushes English as well. The beaches are very nice, though as American Dips we cannot travel to far outside Havana. They are filled with Cubans when the sun blares, but I have heard that in winter it is to cold for them. Yep the weather dips in the mid 80's, and the beaches are clear. I have done some snorkeling which is nice, but I need the tranny that should be coming in our household effects, so I can go more often. The Blazer we bought had floated a couple of times with passing hurricanes. Kinda difficult to lug around all my gear in my backpack.
The cars are a mixed bag. Some Russian Ladas, tiny Fiats, and of course the relics. Some of the relics are awesome looking. It really is like stepping back in time, the architecture is run down with hints of its past grandeur. This along with the 56 chevy driving buy is like stepping back in time.
Now that my kids are now all in school I can take more pictures in the am, when the mercury hasn't risen to high.
