I am just curious, given that the special woofers are so good, they go lower than 20Hz and even appear to have excess low bass, if normal room gain wouldn't be sufficient to let at least the LS-9 reproduce in the twenties? Maybe also a simpler, less deep cabinet as an advantage? I would also say better bass, but that's just because I prefer sealed bass.

They'd work fine in a sealed box as well. I'd keep the depth of the box though to maintain a good width to depth ratio, or at least keep them as deep as the LS-6 box. Slanting the sides in toward the back of the box would work well too.

With it ported the end uses has a little more flexibility and can always stuff foam in the ports as needed.

D - what sonic affect would stuffing the ports with foam balls have?  I mean how would it sound in room differently?

It would take away output starting near 40Hz and centered at 27Hz.
