help identify a panel I saw in a sound studio

Hey all, I did a photo shoot at local school, and in their music rehersal studio, there were some panels glued to the wall, presumedly for sound absorption. They were were 2'x4'x2" and looked like, well, angel hair pasta squished together. I'm thinking it was some sort of fiberglass. They looked like they might have been industrial ceiling tiles.

I did a search online and couldn't find anything similar.

Anyone know what these are based on my lame description?  If so, would these be a cheap way to tame the slap echo in my space?

Not lame, you nailed it. That stuff is called Tectum. It works okay, but there are newer and better products that make more sense in domestic listening rooms and home theaters.

I think we have that stuff in our gym at school.  Over the years the spaghetti gets dirty so keep that in mind.  I suppose a brush on a vacuum would help.

Thanks Ethan. I know there are better products out there, but as I'm facing $100K in tuition over the next few years, I can't spend much on anything that is not a necessity. Hell, I even quit drinking to save money!  :(

I was hoping this stuff would be dirt cheap. I can live w/ the rather crude industrial look as I'm camped out in my photo studio, not a conventional home.

Tectum is not cheap. The cheapest absorption that's useful is mineral wool.

This is a great place to get foam room treatments on the cheap. Just completed my home studio using their stuff and it is great!
