Tried ERS inside Sig 30 ?
« on: 26 Aug 2007, 12:06 pm »

I'm getting a Sig 30 in about 10 days.  I have small cabinet that has Sony 999es and DishNetwork PVR and Sig 30 is going to be sitting on one of these devices. So concerned about EMI/RFI.  Curious if anyone has tried ERS cloth ( http://www.stillpoints.us/ERS%20Fabric%20Info.html ) and what you thought the results were.

I have no experience with your amp but ERS cloth can be hit or miss.  It requires experimentation. Sometimes I have achieved little or no effect, others times improvement and  othertimes a negative effect.

If used inside a chassis, you would need to secure it somehow. Since it is conductive, you need to be careful about situtations where it could produce a short. If you get the adhesive backed cloth, it can be difficult to remove and may leave the adhesive behind.

I suggest you find a way to keep the amp away from the other components even if only resting it on a thick book on top of a component.

You may wish to consider tweaks such as PowerWraps RFI dampers on the power cords for the PVR and player. I have found that these help wherever I have used them. These do not filter the highs like ferrite clamps or carbon - they just remove hashy treble crud. You can easily adjust the effect by sliding the device along the powercord or using multiples. They won't do anything for hum though.

Hi Ken,

Regarding using ERS cloth in the Signature 30, unless I am missing the point I'm not sure if it would do anything for you as the Signature 30 is already in an aluminum enclosure.

Go ahead and try hooking up your Sig 30 next to the rest of your equipment to see if you are even picking up any audible EMI/RFI... it might not be an issue in the audible spectrum.

Keep us posted!

Hi Vinnie,

I thought i'd let you know that I had the opportunity to hear you Signature 30 last Saturday at an audio shop here in Perth, Western Australia.  I was mightily impressed with the sound it was producing and it performed in the system very well.  The system included Bel Canto Cdp and War Audio Dianne's.

It was great to finally hear a product that i've read so much about on the forums.  I could have saved a lot of money purchasing your amplifier without all the mistakes i've made in recent years.

Regards

Rod

Hi Rod,

Thanks for your post and I'm glad you had the chance to listen to the Signature 30.  I wish I was able to hear it with those "ribbonlicious" Diannes like you did!  8)

Best regards,

Vinnie
