For sale is a Van Alstine Hybrid 550EXR. It is in good cosmetic condition (7/10) and functionally it is perfect. For those who have heard of or read about it, I can only say that all of the glowing descriptions are correct. Powerful, dynamic, full soundstage, and also harmonic, natural, and life like musical. The speed, detail, & bass slam of SS with the harmonic smoothness of tubes. With 250 watts of power, it will drive any speaker with no sense of effort. Great with Maggie's, I rarely ever had the dial past 10 o'clock.
There are many positive posts by the many happy users online. I only found 1 professional review on it, but Carl Marchisotto (Nola Speakers), Harry Pearson, & Scott Markwell all loved it. (ask & I'll email the review in pdf file)
It is about 9 years old and started as a 550ER, the original owner had Van Alstine upgrade it to the EXR about 4-5 years ago. (This is according to Frank Van Alstine) So I am the 2nd owner and have had it for a little over a year.
I truely hate to sell it but I have to raise some cash and will move to an integrated. It has been the most surprising and enjoyable piece of audio gear I have ever owned. A detailed musical giant killer! You won't find a better hybrid at this price.
It will include a pair of stock JJ Tesla 12AT7 tubes with very low hours.
No original box but I will pack very securely.
