starting Home Theatre considering HT1's or ST

major shout out to Jim who did phenomenal repair work on my HT3s

I am having my den remodelled and am going to do a home theatre room
I have an Arcam 350 5.1 receiver coming, already own B&W Matrix 2's. B&W center channel (last years model) and B&W 301's (small bookshelf for surrounds)
these are in various 'bedroom setups' now

I have HT3's in my main music room (2 channel high end analog - Moscode, Dodd, Audio Research, Galibier, etc) the setup is stellar
As I love the HT3's response and resolving qualities I'd love to have that sound in my home theatre area as well
But the HT3's show up any short comings in upstream electronics

Considering putting some HT1s in my theatre setup with the other speakers (replace B&W Matrix2s) but if the upstream electronics are inferior (blueray dvd and arcam ht not in the same class as the Moscode, Dodd, Audio Research)  I'm wondering if I should look to more 'forgiving' speakers (those ribbons are very revealing)

Considering the Sound Towers but haven't heard enough comparisons

Also I'm in need of a sub now and wanted to hedge my bets
Easy to get a Paradign or Velodyne but I'd seriously considering a single channel sub from Jim's end
especially mated with HT1's or STs

suggestions and comments welcome
especially from HT1 owners using them in HT setups

thanks

I will have three Song Towers in the next few days that will handle L/C/R duties in my HT.

Give me a little time with them and I will let you know how well they work for HT.

While I don't know the HT1's, I am extremely familiar with the sound of the HT3's.

Nope.

They are going into my dedicated HT room, where they will be placed behind an acoustically transparent screen.

Here is a picture of where they will go:

George

just ribbing you on the Vandersteens
it's nice to know you have to go $$$ more to better the HT3s

your new HT room
looks nice

will look forward to your review

I'm considering the pair of HT2's available in guitar sunburst for my ht fronts
would like to hear more on their upper driver

George,

That's a great screen and very clear picture, but why are you watching a video of some guy's storage room?  :D

George,

The room likes it is shaping up nicely and I too am awaiting your impressions of the ST.  Is you memory good enough to give us an idea of how they would have sounded if you still had the HT3s?  Awwwwwh, memories!

While I certainly can't claim a note by note memory, I think I can do a decent job.

My wife says the Song Towers are at home and sitting in the garage.

Time to get home from work!

I posted a new topic that might answer some of your questions.

After talking to Jim Salk, I bought a SVS sub with a TC Sounds woofer.  I am sure one of Jim's subs would be just as good or better. The SVS works well with the HT1's and the Songs.  With the HT1's and the sub, I think I am as happy with speakers as I would be with HT3's.  I listen to some action TV shows and movies just to hear the soundtracks!

PS. I have a TACT 2.2x preamp which handles the crossover to the sub.  Without an electronic crossover the sub wasn't as nearly as good as it is now.
