Did The RM 40 Midwoofer Update Today!
« on: 31 Jul 2007, 01:57 am »
Did the mod today.
Took about 2 hours, working carefully.
Had to solder in the new caps, easy to do.
Makes a BIG difference, warms the older RM 40's up, and fleshes out the sound.
Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, James Ingrahm, and Boz Skaggs never sounded beter.
Lets me run my mids higher in level.
Across the board improvement, and better mid bass too.
Thank You Brian !

Yes, I can HEAR it breaking in John!
What a WONDERFUL Mod for such a reasonable price too!
I will state that IMHO, NOTHING you can do, for the money, will equal the sound of the new midwoofer IF you have older RM 40's.
EVERYTHING is better, including efficiency, and mid bass kick.

Now, I am FINALLY getting that "old school VMPS sound" I loved so much on my old gigantic Supertowers.

It is good to hear from you John.
I know Mikes friend Luke loves his Nu Force amps.
They MUST be great amps because Mike says Luke has some HUGE Melos Tube Monster amps, when they work, LOL

BTW John, the increased efficiency of the new midwoofer allows more Ribbon Level w/o a hole.
I HAD my levels up to 2.30 on the panels and 2.45 on the spirals!
Great for really well recorded stuff, almost breathtaking.
But a quick listen to Bon Jovi and Metallica "cured" me of running them so high .....
Havent really tuned the bass yet.
well I SORT of did ...
Waiting for the woofer and caps to fully break in.
Then Mike and me are gonna tune the speakers together.
One removes putty, and the other listens.
ONE speaker at a time.

Sure beats crawling around on the floor ?

I am pretty sure Mike and Kevin might want to seriously consider the midwoofer upgrade.
Mike did say that the 40's sound the best they ever have at my house.
When he listened, the levels were at 12 o'clock and 12.30 for the tweeters.
He still has not heard them with the levels increased!

Plus, My Moscode 600 is STILL broken ...
More and better sounds to come.
