input voltage for Cornet2
« on: 1 Aug 2007, 09:22 pm »
I have spent weeks getting the chassis ready, and I now have to get the board soldered.

I have read the manual that came with the Cornet2, and notice that the design allows numerous different input voltages, selected according to the table printed on the board.  At least, I am sure that it refers to input main voltage.

My mains tends to sit at around 120, but sometimes gets as high as 124VAC, sometimes as low as 118VAC.  I guess that the 120VAC setting on the board will be fine, as tubes are much more forgiving to voltage fluctuations.  Surely, I don't have to worry about this, do I?

Charlie,

I asked this same question when I built my C-2.  My AC is typically 119V and of course, it has some fluctuations.  I was told to use the 120V configuration.  My C-2 performance is flat-out awesome.  It is a wonderfully engineered product.  Taste and performance abound in the C-2.  I am not an engineer, but I say "do as I did"........as previously recommended by JH.

Great,  thanks for the reply.  I hope to finish the assembly this weekend.  I do not have access to an oscilloscope, so I'll simply have to check voltages around the board, then test on an old amp.

I have the chassis finished.  I splurged and purchased some quited maple.  It looks awesome, with the black painted steel top plate and back plate.

While I'll earth the back plate via the GND lug, I'll earth the tope plate via one of the fixing bolts for the transformer, ensuring that I use a good star washer to bite into the steel.

If all goes well, I'll report back after the weekend.

My frst tube project was a 6SN7 Aikido - what a nightmare with hum.  It now sounds amazing, but I lost a lot of sleep over it.

Regards,
Charlie
