Hi James,

Currently I’m evaluating a BCD-1. For how many months are you pre-sold on the BCD-1 now?

Thanks, regards,
Carl

Hi Carl,

Any new order coming in would be about 6 weeks.

Hi James,

The literature on the Bryston web site says the BCD-1 player is available with either a seventeen inch or nineteen inch wide front panel. What it does not tell us is whether the panel is available with black finish. So far, all the publicity photos show it with silver. However, the manual illustrates a black remote, so if the color matching between remote and front panel of other Bryston models holds true, then we should be able to order a BCD-1 with a black front panel. Is that the case? (pun intended) :>)

HI Burke,

Yes the BCD-1 is available in C-Series - Silver or Black and 17 inch or 19 inch faceplate.

Hi James,

That's good news. It's nice to be able to have all our Bryston gear "match".

Thank you,

Burke

Hi James,

There are cd-players/transports (using Philips drives) performing upsampling to 96khz if there is an AES/EBU output connection available. I could not find info on this in the BCD-1 manual/specs. When using the digital outputs of the BCD-1 at what sample rate does the signal leave the AES/EBU connection?

Thanks,
Carl

Hi Carl,

The digital outs on the BCD-1 are at 44.1KHz.
The upsampling (and reclocking) we do at the input of our external DAC's.

Hi James,

Currently I'm using (evaluating) the BCD-1 next to a North Star transport and separate North Star dac in a Bryston system (BP-26 / B2 SST). I have no longer room for a top-loader so I am considering replacing the North Star combination with the BCD-1. Most probably I will because I like the sound of the BCD-1 a lot. Perhaps I will keep the external dac also but for other sources (I’m not sure yet). I have asked the question because The North Star dac when connected to the North Start transport via AES/EBU receives data at 96 khz which they claim is beneficial.

What external dac's are you referring to?

Regards,
Carl

Hi Carl,

The DAC's we use in our Preamplifiers (BP26/BP6) and Integrated amplifiers (B100, B60).

We are also working on an Bryston outboard external DAC as well.
