Dream Theater live covers

I was coming home from a late night in the city last night and the radio was doing a heavy metal covers special and they played Dream Theater's live cover of Sanitarium.  James LaBrie doesn't quite sound as good as James Hetfield doing this music, but the rest of band is spot on and possibly even better.  Come to find out they released 3 albums of live shows where they did the entire albums start to finish of Metallica's Master of Puppets, Iron Maiden's "The Number of the Beast", and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".

Anyway, here it he site https://www.ytsejamrecords.com/ProductCart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=7.  They have many other official live bootlegs and stuff on that sight.

I believe I heard a DM cover of a Led Zep tune the other day while streaming XM at work. That is a very talented group of musicians!

I like Dream Theater.  Some of their material gets a bit too heavy for me at times, but they usually seem to bring it back down a notch, or two with others there in the mix.  They understand the use of dynamics and generally the material is recorded well.  Another similar group that often peaks my interest is Symphony X.  They tend to be a good bit harder edged than DR, but every once and a while have a cut such as this one, from their new release:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65_cjCNniwQ
