Ahoy!
I had the great pleassure of meeting a really neat older gentleman today. He is a long-time audio enthusiast. And when I say long-time, I mean it. He is 92 years old, lives alone and he still loves music a lot. He told me he built his first crystal radio when he was seventeen. We must have spent two hours talking over music and equipment. His mind is very sharp and he has an incredible memory. To give you an idea of how much he loves music and equipment he has a stereo rig in his garage, kitchen, family room, living room and office. And he's not afraid of technology to boot! He recently bought a DVD recorder and has been burning movies. I hope I'm like him when I get to be that age.
He's gotten to the point where he wanted to try out surround sound and replaced is family room set-up with a 5.1 receiver and decided to sell the rather large speakers he bought about 25 years ago. I'm trying to help him unload a set of Accoustat Electrostatic Monitor II Speakers. They are in excellent condition for their age. I did not hear them as they are wrapped up in blankets in a back room. He paid $1800 for them twenty-five years ago

. I'd buy them myself but my wife would kill me because they are so big. Their dimensions are 29" wide x 5' tall x 15" at the deepest point. Each speaker has its own power supply that is attached (and is removable for shipping) to the back and helps support the towering front panel. I Googled Accoustat, but found very little info on them and I know nothing about electrostatic speakers. I guess I'm hoping somebody hear could shed some light on these beauties. Do or did they have a good reputation back in the day? Any idea what they might be worth? Links?
Thanks for your help and any input is greatly appreciated.
