ADAM Audio Ribbon Powered Monitors

Anybody know of these, or heard them?

It combines internal amps (ie., powered or active) with a version of the Heil Air Motion Tweeter in a small package at, what seems like somewhat sensible costing.  I've wanted to try my hand at powered speakers and a Heil tweeter for some time. Didn't know if anyone out there had experienced something from this brand?

I listened to the A7 active monitors, and reeeeeeeeeelly, really liked them. John, I came this > < close to buying them, they sounded that good. they have the Eton cone driver and a Heil ribbon. Not bad. Go to a pro audio shop, like Guitar Center in your 'hood, and find some. Hoo knows, you might have an epiphany. I'll wager the bigger ones, the midfield mastering jobbies, are outright dangerous. Resynthesis that can HURT you. I am an ADAM fan, after that experience. Hope this helps.

I've heard the passive versions.  Very sweet sound from the AMT.  I own the Oskar Aulos'.  The sound is somewhat similar but the Adam is more "teutonic" in it's presentation, analytical with tipped-up treble.  I prefer the Oskar.

Hi - It's an interesting approach that's little used in the Domestic market. I myself use active speakers but use a Marchand XM9 2 way crossover with two stereo amps and I wouldn't go back to a passive set up myself having sampled active operation.
Adam are one of the top European companies in the Pro field as I am sure you know. The main problem to running them (and any other pro products) is the use of balanced connections but  it is sensible because you need longer signal cable runs.
I noticed Behringer now have an Active Monitor fitted with ribbon tweeters and Kevlar drivers at  a give away price. They look interesting (no grills though). If I had balanced outputs on my CDP I would be tempted!
Anyway goodluck if you do decide to take the plunge - just remember to hand that turntable in to the nearest police station!

I agree with the "Teutonic" appelation; however, you can shelve the output of the ribbon. I was listening to these with a MOTU SoundBridge, studio quality mastering DAC inside, thru a Manley Pultec tube line unit, and some ADAM sub, not the little one, something with at least a 10 in it. With difficult reference tracks of densely orchestrated music, as I remember one track, Prelude & Theme, "Harry Potter," LSO/John Williams; Sony; they just charged right through it leaving our jaws agape. Make no mistake, these things will wipe the floor with all the other ~$1000 nearfield monitors, because I have heard them. Next best would be the Dynaudio M5? but,... hoo cared, with these A7's around.

The only other actively powered speakers I would like to hear for ~$1000 would be the Supravox 215's on plywood, and a Bottlehead SEX amp kit. :thumb: that would be my choice for a grand.

Have not heard the ADAMs. They have a good rep on some of the pro audio forums I used to frequent.

Dmason- Have you heard any of the Genelec 8000 series actives? If so, any comparison thoughts?

Yes. Very literal. Very metal tweeter. A deal breaker. Very poor value in comparison.
