If you still have the Squeezebox you can connect the computer to it with a type of ethernet cable called a crossover cable. You would then connect your Squeezebox to your preamp as usual. Very easy and no signal loss. You then have the option of listening to internet stations or music you have stored on a hard drive.

Guy,

The SB left a year ago (too many technical problems kept coming up).

Not sure why you had so many problems with your Squeezebox. I've had a Squeezebox2 for a couple of years and have had no problems of significance once I learned a few things. I use it wirelessly but have also used the method I mentioned to you without trouble. You might consider it again as it offers so many choices of source material. I consider it quite a bargain.

Same here.  I sold it about 1 1/2 years ago because it was not providing me with what I call a seamless or hassle free experience.

Instead of it, I now use an outboard USB converter which is hardwired to the computer.  It has never failed to work or to produce much improved results than the SB ever did.

What were the issues with you Squeezebox? Mine works seamlessly(SB3). Could you not connect, wifi, or was the server not functioning? I think its the best thing since sliced bread.

I use a Crane FM transmitter connected to the headphone 1/8 mini plug on my PC located in my basement. It works as advertised. Not for critical listening, but vastly better than PC speakers or the digital music channels from my cable company. I usually listen to a jazz station from Toronto the sound thru the PC/Crane TX is clearly superior in comparison to the same radio station via the digital feed.
My living room stereo is about 30 feet away from the PC  and the the weak link is the AC97 sound card.

Cool, but I don't have an FM receiver/tuner on my main system.
