Can somebody explain the compliance thing to me?

Yes, I realize I should know this already, but alas, I just don't.  So, can somebody explain the concept of arm/cartridge compliance, the numbers and units and what they mean, and how one goes about determining if a cartridge is suitable for the arm you have.

The arm on my HW-19 has a compliance adjustment, and it is what I believe to be a very light arm, but then again, I don't know that for sure.

I have the manual for the arm, but it is not in a form I can access, but if anybody needs specific numbers I can probably get them, but what I'm really after is the information necessary so I can figure things o0ut for myself.

Thanks,

Jim

This link to Galen Carol Audio explains everything perfectly.  You will also need a test record to set things up properly. I use the Hi Fi News and Record Review LP.

Wow!

There is quite a selection of stuff on Mr. Galen's web site Nels - one for my favourites list.

Thanks very much
