I live in Southern California and want to get myself a good Home Theater setup.  I have not been able to listen to either the Salk nor the Selah speakers.  I have read just about every post written and every review that I can find on both, and there seems to be good opinion of the speakers that Mr. Salk and Mr. Craig make.  There in itself lies my problem.  I will be soon selling my Audio Physic Caldera's in Ebony to finance my Home Theater speaker system, so I will also need the Fronts to substitute if I want two channel music.

Is there anyone out there who has an opinion on both speakers, who would be willing to share with me.  I like ebony and of course, the speakers must be artistically enough to pass the WAF.  I will be doing a 7.1 (2) system with my Meridian gear, and I have all the power I need and also the cables that I like.  My price range for the speakers will be in the $15K-$20K range, but I do NOT need subs at this price range.

I am not wanting to offend either of the gentlemen, and I know that there will be strong opinions on both sides, what I am hoping to receive is knowledgeable information to help in my final purchase......like I said, I have NOT heard either system, so I am banking that the reviews that I read are accurate, taken with a grain of salt....

BTB:  I am not unhappy with my Audio Physics, just with $25K invested in the fronts, it would run me an additional $15K to finish out the HT, and my wife is not all that pleased with any additional spending at this time....

Can anyone HELP???

No matter which way you go, I would strongly recommend sticking with a subwoofer for HT duties.  Whether the speakers NEED it or not, the flexibility of placing mains where the lock and image best without regard for how the bottom end couples to the room is a huge benefit - not to mention the load it takes off the main front channel amplifier(s).

I own a pair of Selah line arrays, but I heard the Selah and Salk speakers at last year's RMAF, and both sellers offer well designed, good sounding, cosmetically attractive speakers that sell for about half or less of the price of comparable quality speakers from a mainstream manufacturer. Even if you don't have an opportunity to audition them I don't see how you can go wrong with either seller.

You could always do what I did...

Salk's for the front 3 (HT3s and HTC), Selah's for side (in wall) surrounds and rear surrounds (Tanzanites).

I think you are going to have a tough time getting an answer to this one. Where are you located?  There are plenty of folks here with Selah and Salk speakers, maybe one of us are in your neck of the woods.

Agreed, and moved accordingly - thanks for the prod, John!  I've been meaning to do a general clean-up along those lines, and I'll get there bit-by-bit....

And I agree with Christof that you'll have a tough time getting a definitive answer, as I don't think many people have heard even two channel systems from both vendors in an identical setting (show settings seem to be a gamble).  Both vendors seem focused on giving the customer what they want in terms of both sound and appearance, however, so you might want to start by calling Jim and Rick directly for their thoughts on the best way to meet your needs.  I'd also ask them both if they have customers in the SoCal area that they would be willing to contact on your behalf in the hopes of an audition.  Even then, the rooms and gear will make direct comparisons difficult at best, but it should at least give you a feel for their respective offerings.

As mentioned would be hard to find someone who has compared the 2 in their home setup. I have a 5.1 package from Selah Audio and I'm more than satisfied with Rick's work and customer service. I have no qualms recommending his products. I can't give you an answer though since I've never compared them to Salk speakers.

Thanks for the replys, and I agree with what each of you have said.  I live in Huntington Beach, CA 92648, which is in Orange County...the very same as seen on TV with the "Real Housewives"  .....  LOL...what a joke.....

anyway,  I will continue my research, and since I travel quite a bit, perhaps I will find a owner in one of my destination areas....such as Seattle, WA; Wyoming; Salt Lake, UT and any of the cities contecting them via freeway....I don't like to fly so I normally drive....

I believe someone in Seattle has the SSRs. I'd contact Rick and see if he can recommend someone up there where you can listen on one of your travels. I just finished building Rick's custom HT speakers, and I love them. I guess that doesn't help much, though.
