I've taken the Foobar thread a bit OT, so I'll relocate further questions here. Does anyone have an opinion on JRiver's ripping capability? Does it compete with EAC?

If you set JRiver to Secure mode, it does bit-perfect ripping - same as EAC - bit-perfect. Hard drive copy is exactly the same as the CD original.

Thanks, bigamp. Further question: does JRiver accept the Secret Rabbit Code upsampler plug-in? I know JRiver has upsampling capability---is this the Rabbit SRC?

JRiver's internal upsampler is different than Secret Rabbit. JRiver takes plugins, but I don't know if SR has a version for JRiver.

I tested Foobar as recommended by Steve vs. J River upsampled using the J River code and ASIO output. I preferred J River (modestly) on most but not all tracks. I greatly preferred the J River user interface. The ripping in J River works well.
