Alfie Lew of Gini Systems has agreed to send a pair of his LS3/5A speakers for review. This will include the B+ Bass stand, which not only makes an attractive stand for the monitors, it also extends the lower registers of this system. Look for a review to be published in a few months. The idea behind this review came from the "what products would you like to see reviewed?" thread, so keep the good ideas coming.

Too bad you don't live in our neighborhood.

We've got original LS3/5a's, the Stirling Broadcast model and
the new ones with the external crossovers.  It would be fun to
compare!

Those Gini's are pretty reasonable, aren't they around 700 bucks?

Hi Jeff,
Yup they are reasonably priced. The monitors are $560, and the bass modules are $630.

As a user of the classic 15 ohm chartwell version, i would love to see a comparison of some of the versions of this venerable gem.  Not a shootout per se but just sort of roundtable view of the salient characteristics of each of model.

I had a chance to hear a pair that Kurt had at Echo and believe wrote a piece for TONEAudio way back when.  It would be cool to get the two sets together.

the original LS3/5A's are pretty warm and rolled off on top, where the
Stirlings are much more open through the mids and more extended on
top.  About to plug in the new pair with the external crossovers and
can't wait to see the difference that makes.

You'll have to let me know at VSAC Jeff, if you can't say publicly.  See you next weekend at the conference.

I heard them at AKFest and liked the LS3/5A with bass stand better than most of the speakers there.  I hope Gini offers a 2nd, taller bass stand as these speakers sit quite low and can get "lost" around adult sized furniture.  Except for the open baffles and the two transmission lines I found, everything else with "real" bass potental boomed in those small hotel rooms.  To my taste, the rest sounded too "tipped up" and overly detailed.  The Gini's were nicely balanced and musical.

(Confession: I owned a spin off of the LS3/5A 30 years ago and have owned transmission lines ever since.  So I'm old enough to be setting my ways and not so open minded.)

i would also like to know and hope the review addresses whether the bass stand is unique to gini's ls35a or can be used with some of the other variants. It would be neat if the transmission was some how adjustable via tuning to different models. this is a bit of  wish but would still be neat.
