I want to upgrade my old Denon avr3300 receiver and I don't need hdmi switching. I'm using Spendor speakers and am mostly concerned with sound quality. I can get the Sherwood Newcastle for less than $400.00 but wonder if it would be an improvement or merely a sideways move. Should I get a b&k avr307 or Arcam avr300 instead?

Have you considered the Sherwood Newcastle R872 or R972? I'm particulary excited about the 972. It should be a dramatic update to the R965.

Sorry... didn't catch the price difference. I would think the SN would sound a bit better but not sure if the difference is worth $400.
