Phono Preamp advice - Keep it or buy new
« on: 17 May 2007, 07:52 pm »
This might sound crazy but I have been using my Fisher X-100 tube integrated amp as a phono preamp between my Thorens and Bottlhead Foreplay III preamp. It sounds great, but i just dont feel comfortable with a dummy load on the amp section (By the way this is a great ell84 amp).  This thing even has its own phono gain control for each channel.

I have an oportunity to get a modded Jolida JD9 for the right price (from a dealer), but i'm wondering should I just keep using the fisher and build a MC step up with CINE - MAG transformers....I would save enough to buy a new denon Dl103

Any thoughts.
Thanks
Bob

I've got the jolida jd-9 stock,   It's a nice unit ....  I compared it to a Musical fidelity XLPS and it was better.

But both units sounded much much better with transformers in between...  I think You''ll gain more benefits doing this.
