Charleston, SC - Any audio shops to visit?

The little woman and I are heading to Charleston for some anniversary R & R. Ever the romantic one, I figure I could also audition some new audio gear while there. Do you know of any dealers there with gear available to audition? This is a good idea, right?

I don't believe there is anything downtown besides Read Brothers' Stereo. The last time I was there was 15 years ago so take this for what it is worth. That was a weird store - it was located downstairs in a fabric shop or furniture store and the neighborhood (upper King St.) was pretty iffy. Not sure it would be worth the effort to find.

There used to be a really cool place called British-American HiFi located in a house near Gailliard auditorium. That was the first place I heard the Rogers LS3/5As and a Linn LP-12.

Hopefully some current resident will chime in with the places located in the burbs.

I was there a month ago and saw a nice looking audio shop near the slave market area.  It was near Tommy Condon's restaurant on Church St., or it may have been around the corner on Queens St.  I wasn't able to visit it due to time constraints, but the sign stated that they took appts., or you could take a chance and visit if someone was available.  There was a guy there when I went by in mid-afternoon, but I resisted.  Peeking through the glass, I saw a nice turntable perched on a far wall.  It could be an interesting diversion if you are strolling the historic district.

Have fun...
