Source on Tubes?
« on: 7 Jul 2007, 05:10 pm »
Where can I find a good source that explains the differences between all the various tubes out there, and what circuits they are most commonly found in?  A lot of my components that take the smaller sized tubes (power amp input, CD player, preamp etc.) all use tubes that are different, yet use the same sized receptacle and can be interchanged with any of the others.  I would like a good source where I can learn about and put together some safe substitutions.

Here is a substitution program...  http://tdsl.duncanamps.com/tubesearch.php

Frank's tube data...  http://www.tubedata.info/

Also, Vacuum Tube Valley has some good info and Tube World Portal has extensive links, though some links are old/dead...

Hopefully others can add some more / better...  HTH!

Housteau,

I'm a tube noob and this guy was recommended to me by a trusted member here. I called him and he is very, very helpful and seems to really know his stuff. Give him a call, great guy.
