Howard Hanson Symphony #2 (Romantic)

I'm trying to pick out a good recording of this peice, but I'm hindered somewhat by the fact that it's not exactly a "warhorse"; I won't have a lot of choices. For the life of me I can't find just which recording I heard on Minnesota Public radio.

This isn't really obsure, but not terribly famous. I'm hoping someone here can point me towards a good performance with above average sonics. Maybe Tyson?

You might try the Mercury Living Presence 432 008-2 .Hanson Conducts Hanson - Sym. No.1 , Sym. No. 2 and Song of Democracy.Its with the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra.A very nice recording !

That is a pretty good one, but I'm looking for something a little newer; the sonics are a little dated. I'd really like to find something in a nice "DDD" recording.

I wish Naxos had a recording of the 2nd. I have a sweet Naxos disc of Hansons 1st (the Nordic); the sonics are spectacular, and I love the performance. You can almost always be assured of a good sounding recording when you buy Naxos.

Hmmm...I keep getting 'timeout errors' on that site. I get most of my classical CDs from http://www.hbdirect.com or http://www.amusicdirect.com; as a matter of fact, I just ordered the new Marc Andre Hamelin disc of Liszt & Schubert along w/ a nice SACD of Holst's "The Planets."

Maybe their server is busy, although this would be an odd time for that.

I'll check 'em again later.

BTW, I get most of my CDs from HB Direct, but Music Direct is the place to get DVD-A & SACD discs; they have just about everything in print and they are usually in stock and ship pretty speedily.

Okay, AllClassical.com is working fine today. I think my cable ISP was doing some updates last night which accounts for the flakinesss. Anyway, very cool site, Lonewolf. That's for the heads up. They list a recording I think I'll try pretty soon (I currently have about 6 open 'e-orders' pending right now

yesterday I picked up the Mercury (SRI75007) LP of this. Interesting music, and a rather nice sounding LP. I think it is one of those pieces that grows on you later.
