Interconnect for "Subwoofer"
« on: 19 Apr 2007, 11:46 pm »
My subs is more like a woofers because
they are crossed over at L-R 200Hz so
I need response to at least 500Hz.
The Subwoofer interconnects just
don't have the midrange/midbass
to transition to my speakers.
Does the Sub-Sonic II have enough
frequency resonse for my application?
Or should I go for the BL-1 Series II?
I tries BestCables they sound great but
have humm so I need better shielding.
So they are going back ...

Dan:

Taken from our FAQ page:, and yes the DH Labs Subsonic would be an excellent cable for your needs . . . you might want to make sure it is actually the cable first:

If you have a problem with hum there are generally three possible causes:
1.   Ground loops are the most common cause of subwoofer hum.  Turn everything off and remove all connections from the sub to the rest of the system. Turn the sub back on. If the hum is still there, it might be a problem with the sub or a bad cable. If the hum is gone, the problem is probably caused by a ground loop elsewhere in the system, or improperly connected household wiring.

2.   Poor connections or RCA interconnects can cause hum.  If you move the shielded cable that connects the sub to your system and you hear a change in the hum it is likely you have poor shielding or a defective RCA plug. Replace the cable.

3.   Amplifier damage is the least likely cause of hum. However, if you have ruled out ground loops or a defective connecting cable, it is possible that there is a problem with the amplifier in your sub. See the following

There was no hum with the Monster Sub cable or
Harmonic Technology Pro-SilwayII when they were tried
only with the BetterCable interconnect.
The Monster hit low but died above 100Hz.
HT Pro-SilwayII were great sounding but
were a bit weak on the lowest octave.
Neither had any hum problem at all so
the problem is definitely sheilding.

I should clarify that the crossover is
a 2nd order Linkowitz-Riley slope
which is close to a first order slope
near the crossover point.
That is why I need a cable that is able
to do some lower midrange duty well.

After rethinking this a bit, given your application, I'd go with BL I series II . . .
