ethernet dac?

looks like an interesting project. anyone here tried it? anyone that hasn't tried it have opinions on the design? i am looking to get into diy and while building a dac (this one looks like a toughie too) is most likely among the hardest projects to undertake, it would be a good goal to aim for skill-wise. so, anyone like the idea? anyone think it's rubbish? found a diyaudio thread on it that i should probably read now.

Nice find!  I've seen a few receivers and network media players that offered an Ethernet interface, but none that I know of that convert Ethernet straight to I2S bus of the DAC.  Looking at some of the FPGA cards he's tested, I bet you could even offload room correction from your main CPU.

for some less biased opinions. i don't know if the thing can be used on anything but linux yet though. think i'll send an email his way to get that answered; i really don't like any linux media players as much as foobar.
