Question for Wayne about the Elpac's PSs
« on: 14 Mar 2007, 02:19 pm »
Don't have the money for the Ultimate PS MKII - So of the Elpac WM075-1950 PS or ELPAC WM220-1

With the mods, witch one sounds better?

Wayne sorry for asking all the questions but i am soon going to purchase The full Digital Mods - With gold Bybees (if you think they offer the best Sound Quality) and get you to mod one of the Elpac's (one with best Sound Quality)

 :D

Thanks again

There is never any trouble with asking questions :D

I prefer the modded Elpac WM220-1 over the modded WM075-1950. Deeper, tighter bass and more dynamics are the biggest differences.

There are some of the WM220-1 available used. You may want to ask whoever you buy it from to check it for hum. Some of them may have mechanical 60 HZ vibration from the transformer. I have one here that is fairly noisy, but fine for testing out gear. I have had maybe 2 out of the close to 50 that I have modded make a lot of noise.

Yes, the WM220-1 hums like a bee. It seems to be dependent on the quality of your mains.
