Danny,

I like to use 2*M160X to design a bass unit for  an  open baffle speakers, I am trying out 2 designs,

1. a vented box using 2 units in parralel in a 80litre box, I can get about 37 hz.(-3db)

or

2. open baffle design based on a dipole arrangement.

the 2nd design I am not so confident in the design.

My queries are:

1. Will a vented box integrate well in an open baffle design(ie the midrange and tweeter are open   baffle)?
2. If I opt for an open baffle bass design will I get the same solid bass response similar to
    a vented box approach?

your comments would be appreciated.

With a low crossover point of 200Hz or less, it will integrate fine. I did that with the OB-5's.

2. If I opt for an open baffle bass design will I get the same solid bass response similar to a vented box approach?

It will not play down as low or handle as much power with the M-165X woofers in an open baffle. I did some testing with 4 M-165X woofers in an open baffle and they played down surprisingly low, and had pretty decent SPL. You'll need something else to cover about 80Hz or so on down.
