Isolation tran in HagUsb vs. Chime
« on: 25 Mar 2007, 02:51 pm »
I'm planning to put another USB input into one of my Chimes using a HagUsb.
Am curious to confirm that the difference between the isolation transformers
in the HagUsb vs. Chime is merely the need to drive an interconnect cable (HagUsb).
There's also a curious difference between C8 and C9 [xtal bypass caps; C501 and C502
in the Chime], but I'm less concerned about them.

And for those who are aware that USB is a bus and scratching their heads,
these USB inputs will be driven by different computers.  (Sharing the same
USB bus between two different computers is never a good idea: neither electrically
nor at the device driver level either.)

Thanks,
Dan

Basically these are identical circuits.  Both started using the 1.22:1 transformer, but then I switched the HAGUSB to 1:1.  Forget if I did it to the CHIME.  Doesn't matter, the output is 75 ohms and that is what the CHIME inputs are expected to be.  Just wire the extra HAGUSB output to one of the SPDIF inputs.

That's what I do with the CHIME GOLD.  I use a separate HAGUSB with a 75 ohm coax to connect to the main board.  Only way I could get the USB jack to the back panel.
