Hell.. thats a heck of a deal!! The Amatis sold new for 20K and I believe go for 11-12K fairly consistently at Agon. I heard a pair 5 years ago and they are incredible speakers.. not worth 20K IMO but very nice.

Good luck with that and let us know how you make out.

I'd be all over them if I were in your position, I believe the MSRP on those was something like $20,000 or so.

The price is good as they usually go for a lot more, even used.  A friend of mine had a pair and showed me a review where the reviewer said he would pay $50k for them -- but she only mentioned this review after I said that I wouldn't have spent any more than she did for them.

To me they sound somewhat compressed and very hifi-ish and I think they would probably best benefit from 200+ watt SS amplification with a good valve pre.  Never heard the moscodes, though these may work well too.

They are rather huge, have an amazingly gorgeous finish and are not exactly light and easy to move around, but as I said, the price sounds good.

Awesome sounding and gorgeous speaker.

You need a lot of power & current to make them sing.  Think at least 100W push-pull tube, 200W (at least) sand.

Glad to hear some confirmation on this.  Never could get my neighbor to understand.  I think max she had was 35w tubes.

She kept pointing to the 93dB efficiency, but I kept trying to point out that that was the sensitivity and that they had a horrible impedance curve, and who knows how bad the phase response was when it dipped into its 2 ohm range.  Yup, 200 watts of sand will really make these open up, but to me they still sound very compressed at low volumes.
