Hello all -

I have recently received my modded ELPAC WM220-1 for my new Squeezebox 3 - What a great difference the upgraded PS has made already. I have about a week of continuous use on it so far.

I would like for Wayne to upgrade the digital output of my SB3. For me, that seems to be the most appropriate route. However, I cannot determine whether I should go with a silver or gold Bybee purifer in the digital chain, in addition to the digital mods.

My system is:

Parsound AVC-2500u Pre/pro
Parasound HCA-2205 amp - 5x205 wpc
Sony SACD-222es
Homegrown Audio pure silver interconnects and pure silver digital cables.
Bettercables 11 ga copper twisted pair speaker cables
All speakers are NHT 1.5's with a NHT Sub-One

I have read very positive comments regarding the Bybee purifiers and am considering having that done at the same time. I have also read comments about the gold vs silver purifiers in conjunction with the digital mods. I understand that the gold purifiers are more "analog" and the silver are more detailed and analitical. I'm not sure what that means for me - I want the sound to be smooth and musical - Something that would want me to listen for an extended period of time without tiring of the sound. I also would like it
to be clear, detailed and open.

Do any of you kind folks have an opinion as to whether gold or silver purifiers would be the better match for my system? Any reason to rule either of them out as an option?

Any and all comments welcome - I'm very open to suggestion.

There haven't been too many folks who have compared the Silver Bybees to the Gold in the digital circuit.

Of those that have, most do prefer the Gold. It IS more analog or vinyl-like in tone. There is nothing lost on the high end but the overall sound is more full bodied.
