Wire-use in the Sig 30 - Inductors + Signal Paths
« on: 28 Jan 2007, 01:12 pm »
Hey all,

At the moment, I'm currently adding the finishing touches to a DIY Tripath Kit I'm putting together in my spare time. Similar to the Sig 30, it uses the TK2050 chip.

However, I'm still very much undecided as to what to use for both the output inductor winding, and the signal path hook-up wire (links to threads on Audiocircle).

Due to the incredible success of your amp, I'd be very grateful if you could state what you used in each instance.

That is, of course, if you're prepared to provide such trade-secrets.  :)

Many thanks,
Peter

The Sig 30 uses the TK2051 (which is similar to the TK2050, but I have found them to sound a little different in certain areas )

The output inductors are hand-wound toroids and I do not wish to disclose details of the winding material, core material, inductance value, etc.

The signal path wiring uses solid-core, OCC processed copper with mono-crystal design and hybrid (PVC/Teflon, Nylon) jacket.

Again, I do not wish to disclose the manufacturer and model.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Vinnie

That's interesting. I thought the differences in the two chips was so slight, that any sound differences present would be negligible.

Thanks Vinnie!

That's way more information than I honestly expected, so no worries.

Much appreciated.  :D

Sorry to bring up such a sensitive thread again, but there was one thing I forgot.

Can I assume that from that description the wire is not shielded? I figure it's a big factor in the situation.

If you'd rather not say, then please indicate so and I shall post requesting details no more.

Thank you again,
Peter

Reverie,

If you want a Sig 30, buy one like the rest of us did. If you want your own design, go build it. Vinnie has told you he wants to protect his proprietary info and certainly you should respect that.
He's got a new baby and one way to make a living. He has poured his heart and soul into it and bent over backwartds to help any and every one who has crossed his path. I think you are over the line by trying to press an overly nice guy into betraying himself. Back off.

Reverie,

If you are sorry, you wouldn't bring up this thread again

Please.. no more detailed questions like this.  All that I am willing to give away is listed on my website.

I am now locking this thread, along with this similar "DIY style" thread:
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=37556.0

I have nothing against DIYing, but please "Do it Yourself" and do not post here with DIY questions, comments, suggestions, etc.  I do not run a company that sells DIY kits or services.

Again, I thank you in advance for respecting my position on this.

To continue in the same vein as Macrojack:
Speaking of the Sig30 - I did my homework and I bought (along with products from Omega, Fi, etc.) because I believe first in the quality of the people involved, the quality of the product, and (to be honest) in the pride of ownership in an "artisan" product. After owning the amp for 3/4ths of year, I am extremely impressed with it still (and I've come to realize that even with great internals, the whole can be greater than the parts)...I've recently placed an additional order with Vinnie for a Sig3S Selector because I compared to other potential products and I was convinced that it was the best value available for me (and because Vinnie has been so wonderful to work with). I believe that Audiocircle is "populated" with great and open people - people that I feel that I can trust and I want to believe that it will remain such a community...

Vinnie: Thanks for letting me say my $0.02 worth...
