RM V60s with twin VLAs

Several of us have pre-ordered what I consider will be a true Statement System.  This is one that has the potential to more than just hold its own against many from the cost no object competition.  Since we are still several weeks away from the VLA cabinets landing on our shores, I was curious if the V60 has been mated up with one of the Supertower III sets of bass columns yet to see how they meet and/or exceed expectations as a system?

With all the praise that has already been bestowed with the use of twin VSSs, I know that I am not the only one on the edge of my computer seat just waiting to read about this next logical step.

The next logical step for me would be to try to think about something else. It would be like Christmas when you're a kid. Actually we still are kids I think.

The VLA without hearing it will obviously put outstanding bass into your room. Well articulated with a smoothness and ease that would be very difficult to better. Distortion has to be very low with that many large woofers. Whatever you can imagine as being as good of bass as you've heard is what the system would be capable of.

My main concern would be my room. All the bass traps and treatments I could get away with. Actually I'm pretty sure Brian will be sending your speakers to me for a thorough break in as well as quality control. This will take less than 2 years so patience will be necessary.

You must be one of those truly selfless individuals to make such a kind and generous offer to sacrifice your time and space for such an extended period.  But, being something of the sort myself, I just couldn't allow such a heavy (600 lb+) burdon to befall you.  :)

However, your point about a kid and Christmas sure hits the mark square on.  As does that of the room and proper treatments.  This passed year I have made great strides in treating my room with bass traps and controlling previous reflection and focus issues.

Yes Housteau you're very perceptive! I do indeed want to make sure every VMPS customer receives the best service we can offer. If you'd like I could even do a 3-4 year break in/QA for you. It's your decision until your speakers get here.

When I had been waiting for my RM 40's I actually lost sleep. Then when they got here they sounded like shit :o I didn't know what to think. I've owned 3 pair of Vmps speakers over the years and these sounded as awful as the first pair I bought. My room had already had excellent acoustics and I was very confused.

It took me some time to dial them in and for them to break in and at this point I honestly can't imagine the sound in my room getting any better without live instruments. Same thing happened when I bought the first pair, a pair of Tower II SE's. I bought them due to reviews in Stereophile and Audio. I took the leap of faith.

When I first hooked them up I thought "what did I do?". They sounded awful, bass had been terrible which of course ruins everything Then after some time every one agreed they sounded nearly as good as a mutual friends KEF 107/2's which cost 6k. I honestly wouldn't have traded my 1800 dollar speakers for my friends KEFs.

Being something of a perfectionist I don't give up easily. Every time it has paid off in spades. I'm glad you have traps and treatments in place because the V60's should be about as good of a speaker you could buy. I like the way the speaker doesn't have any low frequency woofers in it's cabinet. I believe this helps keep cabinet vibration down and sound quality up.

I'm sure you'll let us know how you like them once you get them dialed in.  With the ability to adjust the backwave it should prove to take a bit more time and patience to tweak them to perfection. I guarantee you the VLA's will do all you could want. I know Brian's bass engineering capability is far above average. I also know what kind of bass his speakers have been capable of over the last 11 years. Having the VLA's will definitely make the V60's presentation superior to the VSS.

Be sure to post pics. I know the ETA is out a ways yet but I'm looking forward to user responses and feedback.

Believe it or not right before this speaker had been announced I started a thread about Brian designing a world beater. I knew the materials were there as well as the engineering prowess. What surprised me is not one person responded to the thread. At least Brian was smart enough to have already thought of it himself. I think the V60 may indeed shock the speaker industry in quality per dollar performance. Even with a pair of VLAs the price is still under 20k.
