If I did not have any other speakers (I have 4 pairs+2 pairs of raw fullrange drivers) I would jump ALL OVER THE NEW RETHMs. 

The RETHM design and execution, for me sounds intriguing....the earlier versions had what it seems to me major compromises, but the new ones, seem worlds away from it.

I would wait for the Moksha.  With a name like that, it should be the last pair of speakers you buy.

Luckily for me I'm not limited by such sensible practicality.  aa

I've fallen in love with single-driver designs now and these might be untouchable.  The Thirds were nice, but thin (my listening wasn't too serious either b/b at the time I don't think I took SD seriously).  A Lowther with in-phase powered bass is such a good idea, it's hard to believe this is the first real effort.

Since we can't talk religion here, let's take an anthropological approach.  In Carlos Castaneda's parlance, you just became food for the Eagle.  You are released from your tethers and you become one with the Eagle.  I am thinking horn loaded Lowthers don't mean squat at this point.

I've been using the 2nd Rethms with a pair of small Tannoy subs for quite some time in my
SET system and am very happy with them.  I also am intrigued with the single driver concept.

Granted, there are things it does not do, but on the right material they are quite convincing
and the lack of a crossover to the speaker (I let the Rethms run full range and fall off naturally,
with the Tannoys kicking in at about 50hz) there is something to be said for their coherence.

Again, this system is not the answer for everything, but I really enjoy the speakers and they
are a definite luxury.

Also, Jacob George is a great guy!

Don't spend too much time with them, you might get hooked!  The whole SET thing is like
that.  It either really sucks you in or you don't enjoy it!

woodsyi, did you forget to take your medication again? I belong to Hedgehog tribe, we HUNKER...Eagles get runover by 747's these days and taken out by NASA launchings. I wouldn't know a Lowther if it bit me on the bum!

I was originally introduced to Rethm speakers by the folks at Resolution Audio, who use Rethm speakers as their reference.  I heard both the 2nd and 3rd Rethms at CES a few years ago, and it made a huge (positive) impression me.  Since then, I haven't found a single-driver speaker that has been nearly as satisfying.  If I was in the market for high-efficiency speakers, they would definitely be on my short list...am definitely interesting in hearing the new versions...

Has anyone heard the Beauhorn Virtuosos or B2.2s?  I wonder how they compare to the Rethms in terms of overall presentation or sonic signature. I must say, I've lusted after the Virtuosos ever since the Enjoythemusic review some years ago. And those B2.2s.....love the looks! But I've NEVER heard a pair of single driver Lowther speakers. I want to badly...

Here's what I can tell you... the $650 pair of Audio Nirvana mini-monitors I bought recently (8" full-range driver) sounds more coherent than virtually any multi-way speaker I have heard, at any price.  I hate to say it (sort of), but they do some things better (slightly better) than the $17K 3-ways in my main system, which are time-and-phase coherent and about as coherent as a multi-way can get.

I used to think that the "rolled-off" highs would be an issue - they are really not.  Not with Lowthers and probably Fostex as well (I've heard Omegas and other Fostex and noted maybe slightly dulled highs but these were not serious auditions) and not with these A-N drivers.

Every time I listen to these A-Ns now I think "who needs tweeters"?

Bass is perhaps another story - you need a large BR cabinet or a TL or horn for real bass out of any of the single-driver speakers - OR phase-coherent (with the main driver) and perfectly integrated active bass as in the new Rethms...
