Promitheus Energizer not working?
« on: 14 Feb 2007, 02:48 pm »
Just loan this to try in my home system.

I test it out with several high dynamic orchrestral tracks from OST. Till now, I CANNOT hear the difference at all.

The dealer recommended me to plug it straight to the power strip. I have also tried it between the wall outlet and power strip. Still, I couldn't detect anything obvious.

I did report about the energizer a long time ago. When the dealer demonstrated it it to me, with the energizer plug in the music was NOTABLY louder. This doesn't really mean a thing sound wise but at least it shows it is working in some way. I do not detect a difference in volume on my system :(

Am I doing something wrong here? This is a showroom unit and has been burn a while now. The power cord used is one of the modified Clearaudio recommended by the dealer but I don't think thats the problem. Even with a stock PC cord, I should be able to hear out something.

My setup:

Speakers: Von Schweikert VR-1
Euphonic Research Pre and Power amp
James EMB 1000 Subwoofer (connected to another outlet)
Cambridge Audio 840C

Thanks

mysticaldod,

What is it your trying to hear. You should have a quieter background for starters,as well as an effortless feeling to the music.Basically more information.
Just curious if you ever tested your wall outlet to see if it wired in phase?Black[positive] wire to brass screw white[neutral] to steel screw.I would also see if the Energizer is working.Use a multimeter to see if current passes through[set to AC]
Other than that I am puzzled since many others have heard a difference for the good

The first thing I looked out for was improved dynamics which were not there.

Other then that, there was no audible difference. Background sounded essentially the same to me. The musical flow of my system is already very good actually, I don't detect any notable improvements in that area. I will do a second assessment tomorrow with a more diverse range of material. Perhaps the energizer needs timeto warmed up. Admittedly I listened half and hour after I turned it on. Even that I had to turn it off and on constantly for AB comparison.

I will do another test tomorrow. Another thing, the energizer doesn't feel warm at all. This is normal?

I don't really know how to see the phase thing. This is why the dealer told me to plug it into the power strip if I wasn't sure how the wall outlet was wired.

mysticaldod,

Your local electrical supply store sells plug in type testers for this purpose.
if the Energizer a parallel device is similar to the Richard Grey unit it requires 24 HRs to settle in.I would try plugging the Energizer into the wall outlet and the conditioner next to it.Try the Energizer by its self as well as it might have an adverse effect when used with that particular power conditioner.
If none of the above work for you you must either have one very effective line conditioner or VERY clean AC to start with.Probably the latter

Sorry miss this.

Can you check whether the chassis is slightly vibrating? it should be slightly vibrating

The power energizer is not suppose to be hot.
Also you don't have to warm up you should hear the difference

Perhaps if you like drop me a mail and i will check it for you
