That is a waste of good tubes.  It does look cool, though.

According to the web page, those are 12ax7 and 12au7s -- small signal tubes. The power is delivered by MOSFETs (single-ended, perhaps, since there are only two - ?)

The black one is nice, although the acrylic tube covering looks a bit awkward. A wire cage or tube coverings might look better.  Oooh, that Specktone design is a beauty!  I want one even though I don't have an iPod.  Love the green and brown colors.
