Teflon Coupling Caps???
« on: 22 Feb 2007, 08:36 pm »
Looking for 0.1uF Teflon coupling cap for my 2A3 SET amp. I have read about the V-cap and Sonic cap, and these seem to be the ones everyone talks about, but there is no direct comparison between the two. What are some of the comments about the sonic differences between the two, because I do not believe that one is truly better then the other. They just have different sonic signatures.

Thanks,
Brad

Yes Brad, you are correct, "They just have different sonic signatures". I have been using both for some time now and here is my take on their differences in a nutshell.

The SoniCap Platinum is more pure and precise while the V-Cap has more of a sense of texture and body, especially in the midrange. Both are extremely resolving with excellent transparency and inner detail retrieval.

I think it would be interesting to compare these (SC/V-Cap) to the Russian teflon caps.  I got a ton of the Russian variety because they are cheap.

There might be some USA made Teflon caps available this year at reasonable prices.   Just a rumor I heard.  ;-)

Solen (SCR) makes some teflon caps too that are cheaper than other boutique teflon caps. You can get them from solen.ca.
