I read that piece and chuckled to myself about this funny hobby. I'm really happy with my speakers but I instinctively jumped to "man they're going to be tough to ship back for the upgrade", "How long will I be without", and "I wonder if they can just send the parts".
The article doesn't even say anything about the Pros. It goes back to a working theory I developed in college termed "relative happiness". Basically, it posits that your happiness is derived from those around you. If you have the sniffles and feel blue, just wait till your buddy gets the flu and you'll feel 10x better! Got a new Camry? Cloud-9! Ooo, the neighbors got a Lexus, dark cloud. There are nuances but this is the basic idea and the Zunouncements got me thinking about it again.
Whatever you have, no matter how good, gets a lot worse once the next version is announced. If you can unhitch your horse from that lead wagon you're doing better than most and might actually be happy for the long term, some day.
