question about dvd player specs.
« on: 26 Feb 2007, 06:27 pm »
Ok I have a sony DVD player for HT. It is the DVPNS75H.

I was wondering what these specs mean.

AUDIO

24-bit/192kHz Audio DAC
Dolby® Digital/dts® Digital Output
24-bit/96kHz Digital Output (Linear PCM)

I am running optical now, so would it be better to run the digital coax.
I thought optical was better.

I think what it means is that internally, your DVD will perform operations using 192kHz (i.e., oversampling).  However, it will "only" output at 96hKz (basically, around double the sampling rate of CD, which is 44.1kHz).  I think optical interconnects have less chance of causing a ground loop or having interference caused by external electronics.  However, I compared my fancy optical (glass) interconnect with a coaxial interconnect and liked the sound from my coaxial better.  Test it out and see what you think.
