Sorry to hear that. I hope she gets well soon.

Thanks, she's doing much better and they let her come home today, hence I actually had time to log into AC. :) Guess I should have included that as well.  :duh:

OK then  :D Good news. I might just try and get a used Audigy nx for use as a s/pdif converter so I can do some DSP. That is unless the UD-10 winds up being really great for digital.

I wouldnt mind getting the digital outs on my UD-10 modded as the sound is quite sterile.
My UD-10 has only had say 10 hours of burn in so far. Tried is using a mogami 2964 and sound was below par. Changed the cable to a VH Pulsar and the sound was much airier yet still recessed. Hopefully more playing time will fix this problem....

You guys should try the UD-10 with a better driver..like USB-Audio ASIO. I use this unit just as a converter ,which seems the best way to use it. It doesn't seem like it was built to use as a DAC..at least not a very good one. As a converter it is extremely good when used with a proper driver. ASIO4all is nice, but nothing like the USB-AUDIO ASIO driver. I also use an external linear power supply. No complaints about the sound running through Peter Daniels DAC or a Paradisea DAC. In fact I would wager, you'll spend  20 to 30 times more to remotely consider bettering it as a transport..if at all.

If you want a good USB DAC (which also happens to work as a regular DAC with optical in), check out the EMU 0404 USB: http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?category=610&subcategory=611&product=15185

It uses an AK4396 DAC chip (same as the Transporter) and has a built-in class-A headphone amp, that's supposed to be pretty good.  Additionally, it has mic-preamp inputs (with phantom power), so it can be used for acoustic measurement purposes as well.  ASIO support.

I'm thinking of picking one up - it's getting great reviews on Head-Fi and it's only $200.  I have been debating getting something like it, or something like an X-Meridian for my PC (if you don't know the X-Meridian PCI card, check it out - designed with socketed output opamps and the company encourages opamp rolling).

This looks pretty cool. I didn't see support for the UD-10 on the USB-Audio ASIO page. Do you have it working?

Yes it works just fine. You can download the demo to make sure it will work with your system. You can get extremely low latency with this driver. I think Mr.Hagerman tried it out with his Hag USB and loved it. It cost nearly as much as the converter itself, but well worth it. I noticed when I first installed it, that my Paradisea stays locked at all times.
Where before using the ASIO4All with the Windows USB output. It would go on and off when I started or stopped the music.

If you need to pull up the control panel. Go through Winamps preferences. Make sure you have the ASIO plug in installed. This will allow you to make changes. For some reason Foobar won't allow access to pull up the control panel. It will however show up in your output devices on foobar. And you can select it as the output driver.

This driver will take windows audio sys. completely out of the picture. So you'll get no interference from the kmixer or anything else associated with windows audio. Only sounds that will come through is music from your selected audio player.
