« on: 16 Feb 2007, 05:25 pm »
Hi,

I have searched on this forum and on the web and I found out it is possible play flac files on an iPod.  Has anyone on this forum played flac files on their iPods?  I would really like to have this capability.

Thank you

Jon L

Rockbox is the software you need to install on your iPod.  It's rather involved..

Much more so than making MP3 or AAC files from your FLAC masters and playing those on your 'Pod. Is it really worth all the work to hack the iPod?

dB Cooper,

You make more than a valid point but I am the kind of guy who fixes what is not broken.

Jon L,

Thank you very much for the link.  I will give it a try the weekend.  Do you use Rockbox yourself?  Does this software allow me eliminate iTunes completely?

No.  I would rockbox my 4Gen iPod, but it is breathing its last breaths.  I am looking to buy a non-iPod that supports Flac natively.  I absolutely HATE iTunes with its continuous "updates" that continuously crashes my Foobar'd PC.

Cowan D2, Trekstor Vibz, Meishu all are on my short list, but I'm waiting for one of them to come out with a version bigger than 12 Gigs..
