Rosewood RM40's
« on: 15 Feb 2007, 09:09 pm »
I have owned a pair of RM40's for a few years and have recently been thinking about upgrading to the Brian Cheney Signature Edition Packages.  I was hoping someone might have a few pics of the 40's in the MLS Rosewood finish they could post?  I performed various searches but was only able to find a pics of the rosewood 40's being manufactured, I have not been able to find any finished product pics.  Do the Signature edition 40's come with rosewood fronts with slit's?

BTW, I did see some pics of the 30's with this finish and they looked great.

FWI, mine are the original version with the spiral tweeter.  I am also trying to decide what makes the most sense, package up my 40's and paying for them to be sent them from VA to CA and have the mods performed then pay shipping from CA to VA or just sell my 40's and order a new pair of Signature Edition 40's.

What are some of your thoughts.

Thanks

Hi Rob, and welcome to the VMPS Circle.

Here are a couple pics of the Rosewood RM40 cabinets

Thanks John,

they sure are pretty compared to my oakies...  BTW, I have never seen the top pic but have seen the second.

Does anyone know if the Signature Edition has a wooden or cloth front?

I was fortunate enough to pickup my original RM40's without paying shipping.  What can I expect to pay for shipping from VA to CA then back again?

It's about $550 each way.  It' much cheaper to ship just the drivers and x-overs.  I don't know what the upgrade to signature version will be but Brian used to charge just $400 for the new cabinets for upgrade.  You keep the old ones.  Something to think about since it may take a while to sell something that big.

We have not "updated" the BCSE yet since we have had so many new developments like the OXO and SUPERMAX.

All new RM40s come equipped with the new CDWG and not a grill, unless requested.

Shipping with todays rates is usually around (or close to) $600 a pair coast to coast but varies by shipper, location, and insured value.

Sorry to report that program is no longer available

It actually has been gone for some time.  It was initially used as a (loss leader) method to get the MLS cabinets in the field, and say thanks to many of the loyal VMPS owners who were able to take advantage of it.

So you are saying that I would need to purchase NEW to obtain the MLS Rosewood with the various other upgrades offered by the BCSE?

You also mentioned "We have not 'updated' the BCSE yet since we have had so many new developments like the OXO and SUPERMAX.  Are you saying that the configuration & pricing of the BCSE RM40's on the VMPS site has changed?  If so, have specs and pricing been determined yet?  Just trying to figure out if this is doable?

Thanks

Yes, the BCSE is the inclusion of all the highest options.

I have sent B, a new Price List to approve, but he hasn't had a free moment with Building the RM v60, Preparing for, and being at, CES, breaking his toe and being in the Hostpital, and trying to catch up with everything.

In order to not post anything we haven't decided on yet, I have PM'd you some info.

While I'm all in favor of updating older 40's, new mls cabinets aren't cheap.  We'd have to charge at least $1400pr plus labor for taking components out of an old cabinet and installing them in a new one.  OXO's (highly recommended) would add $450 to that price.
