I realize that this cd has been out for over a year (this is their 3rd effort); but i just had to suggest to those of you who haven't heard this trio, you should start with this one. Then, if you like it, look for the first one ('These Are The Vistas'; Columbia/Sony); and then the second effort ('Give'; Columbia/Sony). In that order.
This is an unusual jazz trio who play in a manner not considered 'typical'. Recording quality is very 'present' and way better than most.
I would consider the first track; "Prehensile Dream" my new reference track. It starts very soft and moody..gradually building to what might be considered a 'frenzy' toward the middle of the piece. Then back to a soft and tranquille ending...a really emotion stirring piece. This track will truly test your system's resolving power; as well as whether your system can be driven into clipping while listening at moderately loud levels. The piano player (Ethan Iverson) seems to have twelve hands! I asked to play this track in a few rooms at RMAF and I will say that it was very telling....
FWIW,
