Omegastar 240/3EX amp questions
« on: 5 Jan 2007, 04:07 am »
Hello all, first time poster here.  I'm in the market for a 3 channel amp for my system (Usher 6381 main, Usher X616 center, Sonance TR-4000 surround, SVS sub, Naim CD5i source, Sony NS999ES DVDP, Odyssey Stratos stereo extreme 2-channel amp, Arcam AVP-700 pre-processor) and ran across the AVA amps while doing some research.

I know nothing of these amps, but they look like a darned good deal on paper.  I had a five channel amp, but have decided to build my HT around a dedicated two channel rig using HT bypass on my future pre-amp.  This is why I bought the Odyssey, which I like very much.

Odyssey also makes a three channel amp, but it's quite a bit more expense than the 240/3EX; although it does have a bit more power.  Lots of capacitance.

This amp will more than likely be used for center and surround duties, but I would also put it to the test against the Odyssey; just because you never know.  If used for center and surrounds it will only be required to operate a limited bandwidth from 40Hz and up at the lowest extreme.

My Sonances are a fairly efficient 8 Ohm load; the X616 center is not so efficient @ ~ 87dB, and its a 4 ohm load.   The 6381's are also rated @ 87dB, but are an 8 Ohm load.  My listening room is a medium size space with 14' ceilings and an open floor plan.

Do you guys think the 240/3EX has sufficient power for my needs?  Also, I see that it's rated 125 wpc into 8 Ohm, but does anyone know the power rating into lower loads?  I'd like to see a more detailed set of specifications then what I saw on the website.

Thanks.

I think the OmegaStar 240/3EX will have plenty of power for your applications.

Remember that it does come with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee so you can return it if it does not meet your expectations.
