Vincent Audio?
« on: 29 Dec 2006, 03:31 am »
Has anyone heard or seen any of the gear from German manufacturer Vincent Audio?  My newest audio porn mag from Audio Advisor is full of Vincent stuff.  They have a 150 WPC hybrid amp for $999 that looks pretty appealing as a possible amp for the rears in my HT rig (to go with a Butler TDB-3150).  I wonder if the stuff is well made, and is it decent sounding?  The construction looks pretty robust, from what I can tell from the photos.

I am fairly certain that you can get the same exact model direct from china from about a third of that.  Shengya maybe?  Goggle it and it will be revealed.

You may be right, but they sort of imply that Vincent is made in Germany, not just imported from China.  Plus, Audio Advisor is good about warranty from what I've heard.  Would I get any warranty at all with an imported gray market Chinese amp?

Right now I'm just curious- a $1k hybrid is perhaps overkill for the rears in an HT rig.  Perhaps I'll just get a Behringer A500 for the rears, then buy an AVA/Butler down the road for the 2 main channels.

Here's some additional information regarding Vincent and Shengya, including some comments from someone at Shengya as well as the European importer for Shengya:

Excellent link.  I guess it may just be rebadged.  Not that this is bad, if you get warranty service.  But good to know.

Well, there is the quote from the guy from Shengya that says "1. Vincent products are made by us in China and all the design is different with Shengya and Vincent produts are sale in Europe by Sintron. 2. Whats the different between them? Some of them IC/capacitor/transformer/tube/remote control etc. Of course, they will more better in Vincent and more expensive. "

I saw that.  I'm not opposed to one company OEM'ing for another, and the price is pretty reasonable IMO if the sound is good.  I'm not opposed to buying directly from China if the price is right, but then warranty is an issue, plus I'm not sure just how I'd go about doing it.

I had a pair of the hybrid SPT-100 monoblocks. They were built like tanks, and sounded tremendous. Biggest drawback? Resale value. Cheers, bw

Kavent is the same product also, and even less expensive than vincent. I think it is only cosmetic differences-does anyone know that for sure?
