Finally, I got some DIY happening again. I modded one of my DIOs, amazing how much difference a few bucks in parts makes. Haven't done the output filters yet, that should smooth things out a bit more.

Then I'll Nirvana the AKSA and convert everything to 240V and I'll have something I can talk about at least  8)

My back is killing me though. I really need to get a table, sitting on the floor is not good...  :nono:

John,

A little off topic but since you are down under you might want to check out the Supratek amps and preamps.  I have heard a lot of raves about  Mick Maloney's preamps in particular.    These are custom built with as much as a one year wait for his products.  His craftsmanship is simply top of the line.  His products seem to represent a great value for high end gear.  Audiogon discussion forums are literally gushing about his Syrah preamp.

Here's a link if you are interested in contacting Mick.

hi john,

i've had my aksa nirvana completed for one week and i can easily hear the difference. it is probably about 15-20% better than stock.  i was going to try and tackle the upgrade myself but i attempted to replace a cable from the amp board to the rca out in the amp with cat 5 and i accidently broke the post on the amp board :(.  needless to say i organised for my techie friend to fix my stuff up and do the nirvana for me.

are you enjoying living in sydney?  it's a lot faster than here in perth, a great place to bring up my kids though.

hi nature boy,

i've heard that the supratek products are very good, actually for once i can actually say that i live very close to a manufacturer, about 20 minutes driving from my house.

his products are a bit out of my range price wise and it doesn't helpwhen he sells his products in $us which puts me at a disadvantage.

regards

rod

beat, nope

I thought Mick Maloney was out in the bush somewhere? Heh, just the impression I got from his website a while back. Who knows, one day I might be able to make something that looks like one of his creations ;)

Cool, thanks for the tip, I'll try it. Darn thing decided to behave itself after I left it turned on for an hour...  :!:

I think the filter I put in was a step backwards. Oh well, I have another, I'll mod that and give it the other filter.

Glad I finally got to this, been sitting on it over a year  :o

Time to stuff this puppy back in its box.

Hi John,  a mate of mine who has modded several DI/Os tells me that the old production run from Taiwan frequently had sync problems on some units  :x .  The new units being made in China apparently don't have the problem.  There are some small changes to the circuit in the new production units, too.

Cheers

PS - what suburb are you in?

Hi Tony, I'm in Newport. Almost off the end of the map :-)

I realized that it depends on the time of day! Early evenings are particularly bad.. so it must be a power problem.

The delights of Pittwater's electricity supply - I think it's related to the tides  :D.  My mains is about 250V - hot, but at least it's consistant.

Cheers
