SB3 as temporary front-end?
« on: 13 Dec 2006, 02:53 am »
Another question from a soon to be Odyssey owner - I spoke with Klaus earlier and my monos should be shipping out shortly which is great news. However my Candela is still a ways out which leaves me without a preamp until it arrives (my current 2 channel rig is built around an integrated with no pre-outs). It is simply not possible for me to have these new amps in my house without firing them up  :green: so I am left with the squeezebox as the only potential source with volume control/pre-out capabilities. Has anyone tried a direct run like this? Any potential impedance mis-match issues that I should be aware of? I tried a search but didn't get anything Odyssey specific so any advice would be much appreciated...

Thanks,

I've used my SB3 directly into my Khartago monos and it does work great. The only warning is that the SB3 has a software volume control and if there were ever a bug in the software it could damage your speakers if they start playing at full blast.

That's one of several reasons I placed a DAC and a [tube] preamp in between my squeezebox and amplifer.
