Hi Everyone!

Another AC member was kind enough to send me a copy of a re-mastered Led Zep IV (1994) so I could compare it against my 1990 box set (not remastered).  I can confirm that (to my ears at least) there is a definate improvement with the remastered version.   :thumb:

Forgive me, I'm not very good with the metaphors but I heard....much less noise, sounded a little louder to me, more bass, tighter bass (think the bass and treble are rolled of on the 1990 disc), Better imaging (could make out the various background chorus singers versus just one "blended" chorus), the mids definitely sounded better (more real?), better imaging and depth....but still not the best recording I've ever heard.

In a nut shell, much better.  After a few listens I couldn't go back to my discs.  I think I'll definitely need to ask for a few of the remastered discs for Christmas   :xmas:

Cheers!

I was really disappointed with the DVD-A version of How The West Was Won.  Perhaps the regular DVD would be more enjoyable; it may be mixed the same, but when there's video to distract me from the sound I find I can tolerate poorer sound.  I should probably look into the regular CD version, too.

I listen to Zeppelin all the time on my rig and actually use Over the Hills and Far Away as a reference track (remastered). If you want to hear a really good recording, give "No Quarter Jimi Page and Robert Plant Unledded" a try. It is a live recording and I think it sounds awesome.

I think that" Houses of the Holy "is maybe the best sounding CD, (not remastererd). I only wish "Physical Graffitti" sounded as good. As for drums, my first pro drumset was also the Ludwig vistalite, clear blue, purchased in 1974. After 2 years on the road they were pretty hammered but I wish I still had them. My current kit is a Mapex Mars, maple shells and really sound good. I've been using them for 10 years and have babied them. Live and learn.
