I'm baaack.
Well, misery loved company. Glad to see you are all back up and running, I think Sturgus got the prize for longest, I guess.
We got the major tree dump on the house, but no *serious* damage like pierced roof, that I can detect. It's all still iced over mostly.
Gutter ripped off, power, phone, catv, off the house. Cable went down WITH the internet, and that was some of the toughest until this morning. Golly, y'all ever really try and give up the internet for a few days! What is the horror-version of 'priceless'?

I still have my electrical service laying on my fence, the wire laying in my and the neighbor's driveway, but it is 'hot' and we have power. Thanks to that, we have had motel service for my 89 year old mom, my son, and stepdaughter who all don't have power yet.
We tried the power company the day after it came down but got tired of 'hold'. At this point, I'm waiting for them to catch up with the rest of the world before I complain, or else if they happen to pass by and disconnect me for 'safety's sake'. Last summer with the big storm, the service got drug down the same way, and we had it disconnected the next day to repair the meterbase/, mast, etc. and had that done that day, but waited 5 days for a return to hook us up. So you can see why I wait.
Treelimbs ALL around the house. We spent about 15 or so man-hours pulling it off the house, away from the front door (*couldn't get out without a saw!) and major chainsaw action. AND of course, something went ugly with my 2 year old chainsaw. After dismembering the filters, hoses, etc, I gave up and bought another, and it made pretty quick work of stuff.
Whenever I get 'cut off' on the power, I'll ditch a day at work and do the repair myself. I didn't have time this summer and it cost me $850 for that repair, which lasted 6 months. Sheesh. I used to do that for a living, and talk about getting my 'knickers in a twist'!
Still lots of broken limbs in my tree and my neighbor's big ol' soft maple, so the horror remains. At least the neighbor sees good reason for having his tree taken down as I helped him get about 8 BIG limbs off of his roof yesterday.
BUT, as per reports from everyone here, the stuff that the limbs beat up are only 'stuff', right Steve? Nobody bleeding, no heart attack, home basically intact? That *is* 'priceless'. (Truly sorry for your loss though Steve, that was a comfortable space out there.)
So, okay, no gear upgrades for a while....

("grumble, grumble...")
We'll just live with that!

Life is good. Glad everyone 'out there' is basically okay.
Best (and warm!) Regards,
DeadFish
