Steve, thats a bummer. I guess we were lucky, that or all our weak limbs fell off during the storms last summer.

Steve,

Hopefully there is no serious damage to your home.  I was just about to say how lucky I was through all of this.  My power was never out, no trees down in my yard, while trees are down in neighbors yard on both sides.  However, I just learned that my sister in-law has no power, and will now be staying with us and bringing  her 2 very rambunctious dogs. :(

I surived unscathed. St Peters didn't seem to get hit that hard. A lttle ice and a little bit of snow but nothing worth crying about.
This weather does make me appreciate my Subaru. I took my Wife to work on Friday morning as her car is the toboggan from hell and a lot of the roads were unplowed. The trusty suby went through no problems. I watched a lot of cars running off and getting stuck but I barely slid. You gotta love all wheel drive. I hope everyone else faired ok.

Well fellas I just came in from the cold and darkness . My power came back on around 4:30 today. It has been a long 4 days trying to read Stereophile by candle light, wrapped in 3 blankets. I think a generator and wood burning stove is in my future. The good news is that other than a few downed limbs everything is fine. Hope to see all you guys next Sat.

Wow, that sucks Sturg. I called a couple times and left messages but I assumed you were OK. We could have put you and Cynthia up. Glad to hear you have power back and no damage to the house. This year has been as bad if not worse than the floods of 93.

Good to hear that everyone is OK.  My in-laws just got power back last night.   I thought that I had slipped through untouched, but I looked out this morning, and found that 2 trees had fallen.  Fortunately they fell across my back yard, and are suspended by other trees. Neither fell anywhere close to the house.  I think they may stay right where they are until warm weather. :thumb:

My power went out when the storm came through.  It was an amazing sight to see trees and limbs falling all around.  Power came back sunday around noon.  Sounds like Sturg had the longest outage.

How cold did your house get?

I'm baaack.

Well, misery loved company.  Glad to see you are all back up and running, I think Sturgus got the prize for longest, I guess.

We got the major tree dump on the house, but no *serious* damage like pierced roof, that I can detect.  It's all still iced over mostly.
Gutter ripped off, power, phone, catv, off the house.  Cable went down WITH the internet, and that was some of the toughest until this morning.  Golly, y'all ever really try and give up the internet for a few days!  What is the horror-version of 'priceless'?

I still have my electrical service laying on my fence, the wire laying in my and the neighbor's driveway, but it is 'hot' and we have power.  Thanks to that, we have had motel service for my 89 year old mom, my son, and stepdaughter who all don't have power yet.
We tried the power company the day after it came down but got tired of 'hold'.  At this point, I'm waiting for them to catch up with the rest of the world before I complain, or else if they happen to pass by and disconnect me for 'safety's sake'.  Last summer with the big storm, the service got drug down the same way, and we had it disconnected the next day to repair the meterbase/, mast, etc. and had that done that day, but waited 5 days for a return to hook us up.  So you can see why I wait.
Treelimbs ALL around the house.  We spent about 15 or so man-hours pulling it off the house, away from the front door (*couldn't get out without a saw!) and major chainsaw action.  AND of course, something went ugly with my 2 year old chainsaw.  After dismembering the filters, hoses, etc, I gave up and bought another, and it made pretty quick work of stuff.
Whenever I get 'cut off' on the power, I'll ditch a day at work and do the repair myself.  I didn't have time this summer and it cost me $850 for that repair, which lasted 6 months. Sheesh.  I used to do that for a living, and talk about getting my 'knickers in a twist'!

Still lots of broken limbs in my tree and my neighbor's big ol' soft maple, so the horror remains.  At least the neighbor sees good reason for having his tree taken down as I helped him get about 8 BIG limbs off of his roof yesterday.

BUT, as per reports from everyone here, the stuff that the limbs beat up are only 'stuff', right Steve?  Nobody bleeding, no heart attack, home basically intact?  That *is* 'priceless'.  (Truly sorry for your loss though Steve, that was a comfortable space out there.)

So, okay, no gear upgrades for a while.... ("grumble, grumble...")
We'll just live with that!  :thumb:

Life is good.  Glad everyone 'out there' is basically okay.

Best (and warm!) Regards,
DeadFish
