Relentless scammer - fun reading
« on: 30 Nov 2006, 01:39 am »
Hello,
Here are a few emails that I have been receiving from someone interested in picking up the Usher D2 speaker I have for sale. It gets interesting and I suspect it will become more entertaining soon enough should he continue to correspond.

EMAIL #1
I am very interested in these speakers. Could you please confirm price and condition is as mention.

Response #1
Yes, they are still for sale and still in described condition. The price is as mention and has not changed.

EMAIL #2
Thanks for the mail and the time you took to explain in details the condition of the (demo pair of Usher D2 ) I have just informed my Friend about the (demo pair of Usher D2 ) and wants you to you to
send the following information to him for the payment;
 FULL NAME;...................
 CONTACT ADDRESS;............
 TELE NUMBER;..........
 ZIP CODE;...................
 CITY;..................
 STATE;.................
 COUNTRY;....................
Thanks for the cooperation and waiting to hear
 from you soonest.

Response #2
Greetings, Where is your friend located? I think it would be best to start with all his contact information. These speakers are to be sold with local pickup or arrangement for truck pickup as a cash sale.

Email #3
the payment is cheque ok

Response #3
A check would be fine but must be a Certified US bank check and clear the bank prior to pick-up of the speakers.

Email #4
ok. i we send you a cheque of $29,000 ok. and i we pay for the shipping ok..

Response #4

Why $29K? As I mentioned, these are for pickup only. I will not ship them. Where are you located.

Back in 'stone age' of 8-bit computing, I tinkered with an early program called "Eliza" that could kind-of converse with you, but you could quickly run rings around it.
I think 'Eliza' had more on-the-ball than these folks...

We get this sort of thing on a very frequent basis. I'd say at least once a week someone tries this sort of thing. It can waste a fair amount of time (to get to the point where we're sure it isn't legit, don't want to offend someone who is actually interested in purchase).

It didn't start with the internet, been going on for many years . . .

From what I am starting to understand, there were several companies that received this same line of emails right down to the letter. I almost wish he would continue communication just to play with him a bit.
I think it would be neat to hang a $29K bogus check on the wall.

Yes, I too get similar scams on a regular basis. They are usually from Indonesia or ......I can't remember the other big country but most dealers know who I'm talking about.
